Prayers for Syria: The Nuns Tell It Like It Is

It is easy to get caught up in the rhetoric on the TV and the glaring drum beat of war, all in the name of "justice," but we must not forget the men, women and children who live with the very real fear that they could be bombed.

A group of Trappistine Nuns living in a remote part of Syria let off a little steam recently and in doing so, they apparently captured the feelings of many in their small community, if not the world, who wonder,

Will we be bombed today?

Please, offer your voice up in prayer and body in fasting, this Saturday, September 7th, for an end to strife and the avoidance of military intervention.

God of Compassion, Hear the cries of the people of Syria,
Bring healing to those suffering from the violence,
Bring comfort to those mourning the dead,
Strengthen Syria’s neighbors in their care and welcome for refugees,
Convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms,
And protect those committed to peace.
God of Hope,
Inspire leaders to choose peace over violence and to seek reconciliation with enemies,
Inspire the Church around the world with compassion for the people of Syria,
And give us hope for a future of peace built on justice for all.
We ask this through Jesus Christ,
Prince of Peace and Light of the World.
